Aitherion (2004-5) is an experiment in the fractal idea of sound, an extended drone piece for prepared bass guitar and guitar played with electric motors and e-bow.  Here, each note is a single hour-plus performance of concentration as the motor or e-bow is held delicately above the string: the natural flux of concentration reveals microtones or harmonics within the single tone.  When several tracks are layered and mixed, (the mixing process for this piece took over a year) a tapestry of floating harmonic microtones emerges.  This piece is a functional soundwork, in that it is played while I am making paintings to create an environment of sonic meditative concentration.

Mirror is the soundtrack for “Mythograph”, a video/sound collaboration between Angie Drakopoulos and Daniel Hill, exhibited in Paris (g-Module, 2002) and New York (Smack-Mellon 2005).   Mirror is an experiment in the fractal idea of sound, an extended drone piece for prepared bass guitar and guitar played with electric motors.  Here, each note is a single hour-plus performance of concentration as the motor is held delicately above the string: the natural flux of concentration reveals microtones or harmonics within the single tone.  When several tracks are layered and mixed, a tapestry of floating harmonic overtones comes to life.  This piece continues to function as a painting soundwork, in that it is used to foster focus and concentration while making paintings.
